  • Choosing the Perfect Room Colours: Part II

Beautiful colour combinations for your home So, you’ve decided to get your inner home decorator on. The slight snag is you’re just not sure what room colours to go for and what colour combinations will work best. Take a deep breath and don’t worry. We’re here to help. If you haven’t read our blog on choosing the perfect paint colours, it’s a great place to start. We adore creating beautiful colour combos for every room with accessories that complement colour schemes set by the likes of Dulux and BEHR®. We hope our combined know-how and ideas will inspire you to turn your own room into the perfect haven. Colours of the year do the hard work for us Trendsetters like Dulux, BEHR® and Pantone, whose Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (yellow) featured in our last blog, don’t pluck colours out of thin air. They care about what’s been happening in life, like the fact that our homes have been our absolute everything during lockdown. They want to inspire us to create a beautiful ambience, and in the year that we can invite family and friends back into our homes, they know we want them to feel warm and fuzzy when they visit. Dulux gets that 2021 is about Brave Ground The lovely folks at Dulux definitely get it. Brave Ground it is indeed for most of us, who’ve forgotten what it’s like to dress ourselves up, let alone feel daring enough to give the living room a facelift! Brave Ground is just what we need. It’s a mid-warm neutral. A friendly, earthy colour they describe as bolstering and balancing. Perfect to warm the hearts of all who step in the room. Dulux’s four inspiration room colour palettes Brave Ground works beautifully with a whole range of colours, from bold warm pinks to calming blues and greens. Dulux has created four inspiration palettes which you can use to choose complementary wall colours, wallpaper, curtains and accessories like cushions and throws, footstools, vases and flowers. 1. The Expressive palette teams Brave Ground with deep rose, terracotta and even a cool lilac. These colours look great styled with modern furnishings, graphic patterns and light wood floors. 2. Trust is a collection of earthy colours and calm neutrals, from deep cacao to pale goose down. These tones work well with mid-century furniture and rich finishes, such as copper, marble and velvet. 3. Earth takes nature-inspired blues and greens that are soft and muted. These tones work well styled up with natural wood, reclaimed furniture, shapely ceramics and indoor plants. 4. Timeless is natural and earthy, from mud to smooth mustards. This palette creates a firm foundation for any furnishings – traditional or modern; and works well with artisanal crafts and natural materials. BEHR®’s 2021 colour palette is all about Elevated Comfort Again, the team at BEHR® are totally with us on the fact our decor needs to boost our comfort and wellbeing, as well as set a lovely positive mood for our family and friends. As well as giving us a single Colour of the Year, an earthy and harmonious Canyon Dusk, BEHR® have created a whole colour trend palette for 2021 – giving us a whopping six colour themes and 21 shades to choose from. Amazing! A versatile range of colour combinations With its warm neutrals, soft greens, terracottas and moody blues, it’s a versatile palette. There's lots to choose from in terms of your walls, carpets and bits and bobs to accessorise your room. It allows colour to mingle, creating harmony in living and working spaces, which reflects the way we’re mixing work with pleasure in our post-pandemic homes. It echoes our desire for the outdoors, fresh air, travel and sea to help bring a sense of adventure and freedom to our chosen rooms. Elevated Comfort also includes rich, optimistic colours to lift the spirit, with bold, smoky aubergine and vibrant teal shades. Feeling inspired? Why not create your own colour palette We love ColourSpace for creating fabulous colour scheme ideas. Just enter a colour, and as if by magic, lots of colour combo palettes appear for you to choose from. Enjoy! Shop accessories for your colour scheme >

  • Choosing the Perfect Paint Colours: Part I

Home colour schemes to inspire your mood Choosing paint colours for your home can be a tad overwhelming. Over our next two blogs, we aim to help you get a few steps closer to finding the perfect tones for your walls – with the ins and outs of why colour is important, how it can make us feel and what colour combos work well. Our wellbeing and mood can be affected by colours in different ways and there is a psychology behind it. Some bring feelings of natural softness, tranquillity and warmth, such as subtle shades of blue, yellow and peach. Whilst bright and darker colours bring out feelings of strength and passion, as well as creating a bold look for our home. Choosing the right colour combination will help bring the feeling and ambiance you want to transform a room into your perfect haven. So, how are colour trends set for the year? When we’re looking for inspiration or shopping for decor accessories, certain colours will catch our eye. Did you know these will have been set each year by colour experts like Pantone and Dulux? The PANTONE MATCHING SYSTEM® tool revolutionised the printing industry in 1963 and supports all colour-conscious industries from beauty and textiles to architectural and interior design. "The union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid, but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted. This is essential to the human spirit." - Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute For 2021, the team at Pantone felt that as people look for energy, clarity, and hope – spirited and emboldening shades PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating would help to satisfy our quest for vitality. Pantone has a fantastic online colour finder, which you can use to help create a mood board and choose the perfect paint colours for your home decor project. Try it out and tell us what you think of it! Wall colours to soothe and revitalise When you think of each room in your house, how do you want to feel when you cook, sit down or close your eyes to sleep? What emotions do you want to inspire in your family and guests? For many of us, this will be the year of choosing uplifting wall colours in line with Pantone’s spirited mantra. Below, we’ve created a colour mood board to help you get to grips with how you can create an atmosphere that boosts relaxation and positivity. This draws on the colour expertise of The London Image Institute with additional thoughts from Design Psychologist, Niki Schafer, who has been working with B&Q to help their customers choose colours based on how they make you feel. Yellow Yellow generally brings a smile to our faces. However, while it is an uplifting colour, it can be bold. A soft grey or blue will help to balance the brightness while keeping the sunny warmth. Green and Blue Greens and blues are good for the soul. Green patterns, especially foliage, soothe our minds and put us at one with nature. Blue is also productive, working well in home gyms and offices. Pink Pinks inspire welcoming and bubbly feelings. Softer variations of pink bring warmth, tranquillity and elegance to the home, particularly when matched with baby blue. A stronger pink will offer flashes of vibrance and invigoration. Black A hint of black oozes sophistication. Used sparingly in the form of a statement wall or with lampshades, side tables or flashes in your wallpaper or rugs – black can add an impressive air of decadence to any room. • Behind the Scenes of a Home Decor Small Business

A day in the life of our founder, Sarah Fragkakis So, what exactly does a typical day at House to Haven look like? We chat to founder, Sarah Fragkakis, who talks porridge, home decor suppliers, photography and happy dancing! Breakfast Alfie (my faithful cocker spaniel and House to Haven mascot) wakes me up every morning and begs me to hang out on the sofa downstairs, even though he's back to snoring on the couch five minutes after I'm up. I find that a delicious bowl of porridge with a side-serving of Jeremy Vine gives me the energy I need to kick-start my day. Early morning I head back upstairs to the office, turn on a Spotify playlist and do a quick tidy up. I adore my pink and rose gold desk and matching stationery. These, and the lovely country view out of the window, help to inspire me. My planner is updated on a Monday and keeps me focused every morning as I go through the tasks for the day. I check my emails and any orders that may have come through overnight. Happy dance time! I get so excited when orders come in each day from my amazing existing and new customers. I enjoy picking the products and lovingly wrapping each item with recycled and reused packaging, all ready to send out right away. Mid to late morning It can also be like Christmas morning when new supplier orders are delivered. Alfie and I rip open the packaging to check out the sheer quality of what’s arrived. Very exciting! I liaise with suppliers to add more items to our home and garden collections. One of my favourites is based in Denmark. I just love their soft romantic French vintage style and that we can offer their beautiful products here in the UK. I also ensure to support UK based suppliers like Gisela Graham and a company that provide some fantastic modern rustic and unique products. Lunch Greek tzatziki or Alfie’s favourite low-fat cream cheese, on thins, are usually on the menu for lunch. Washed down with a mango, pineapple and banana smoothie or a cold glass of water. Early afternoon I turn my attention to photographing stock for the House to Haven website, which I love to do. I use a mix of photos sent by suppliers and the rest I style and take myself. Our own home and garden, a mix of modern industrial rustic and French Vintage decor, serve as my canvas for creating the ideal backdrop. Some of our lovely local customers are also happy for their homes to be used as my studio. Mid-afternoon When Alfie decides to chase his brother Milo (the cat) or chew on Dad’s socks – it’s time for his walk. We head out to the local fields or around our estate where he loves to play with other pooches. I like to leave my phone at home so I can have a quick detox from social media and emails. It’s nice to chat to people we meet on the way and take in the fresh air and scenery. Late afternoon I spend time updating the website with the product images and details. I like to be as descriptive as possible, so customers feel they have all the info they need. I then make sure that everything on Facebook and Instagram is fresh, chat to followers and respond to questions and comments. The feedback and support I get from our social media community is so inspiring and helpful. It’s really important to help develop the business and absolutely makes my day! Evening My hubby and I tend to eat a fairly early dinner together. It’s great to catch up with him and talk about the excitement of the day. Alfie is normally raring to go for another walk soon after and then we kick back together and get lost in a series on Sky or Netflix. • Passionate about Packaging

We’ve put a lot of love and thought into our packaging as well as our product collections. Something we're very passionate about here at Haven towers. It's important to us, that the packaging for our products aligns with what we stand for - an environmentally friendly haven. We seek to end packaging waste and its undesirable effects on the environment. We prioritise the use of recyclable packaging and try our best to find ethically sourced materials and even upcycle products. We are committed to only using necessary packaging and easily recycled materials wherever possible. Let's talk boxes All our parcel boxes are made of 100% biodegradable cardboard. We also try and reuse any boxes we have from our supplier orders or other companies. The outer packaging may not always look pretty but we hate to see them go to waste. Where possible we will use an eco-padded envelope or the smallest box possible for your order to reduce wasted packaging. To help reduce the amount of packaging we use, your click and collect and local orders won't be boxed but we'll use recycled bags to keep your order dry and COVID safe. What about the tape and string? We'll wrap your order with biodegradable hemp jute string to give it a special added touch when you open it. We also seal all our packages with brown Kraft recycled paper tape, a 100% biodegradable, compostable packaging tape. Even the tape’s adhesive is solvent-free and compostable. Packaging materials? We want our parcels to look great but be kind to the environment at the same time. All the items we send are safely wrapped and padded using recycled paper, eco wood wool or corrugated cardboard. All of which are 100% recyclable and compostable. Your wood wool can also be safely used as a fire starter. You will not find any bubble wrap, polystyrene or foam peanuts round here! So, you can reuse, recycle or simply compost all our packaging. And the thank you cards? Our marketing materials such as business cards, thank you cards and stickers are all recyclable. So, when you've finished with them why not reuse and pass to a friend, recycle, or simply compost them. We love hearing from you Do you have any questions or thoughts on how we could better improve our packaging? Would you like to send your packaging back to us to reuse again? Just drop us a note anytime. We'd love to hear from you.

As well as Southern Europe, Flamingos are also found in the Americas, Africa and Asia. They're not just renowned for their fabulous pink colouring but also for standing on one leg.
